Privacy, data use, and useful information about MountainBucks.
MountainBucks is built privacy-first. It is a personal-finance app, and your financial data lives in your own iCloud account — it is never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information We Collect
MountainBucks collects minimal, anonymous usage data through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service. This data includes:
- App features used (e.g. a movement added, a goal created)
- Device type, OS version, and app version
- General, aggregated usage patterns
This data is fully anonymised — it cannot be traced back to you as an individual. TelemetryDeck does not use cookies, does not track you across apps, and is fully GDPR compliant.

Your Financial Data
Everything you enter — income, expenses, balances, goals, investments — is stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit). MountainBucks:
- Does not send your financial data to any server we control
- Cannot read or access your data — it stays in your Apple account
- Does not share your data with third parties or advertisers
Shared Expenses & Family
Shared expense groups and Family features use Apple's iCloud Sharing: data is shared only between you and the people you explicitly invite, entirely within iCloud. We never see this data, and nothing passes through our servers.
Family Mode & Children
You can create profiles for the members of your own family (name, avatar, piggy-bank balance). This information is stored only in your iCloud and is not collected by us. Family features are intended to be set up and managed by a parent; MountainBucks is not directed at children under 13 for independent use.
Subscriptions & Purchases
MountainBucks offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions to unlock premium features. All payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information.
Subscription management is handled entirely through your Apple ID settings.
Data Retention
Anonymous analytics data collected via TelemetryDeck is retained for a maximum of 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
No personal data is retained because no personal data is collected.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
